Elon Musk, a business magnate and the 46th richest person in the world, is the founder, CEO and lead designer of SpaceX.

SpaceX, founded in 2002, is an aerospace manufacturer and space transport services company headquartered in Hawthorne, California. Its goal is to reduce space transportation costs and enable the colonisation of Mars.

Elon Musk is more famously known co-founder, CEO and product architect at Tesla, Inc that specialises in making electric vehicles and making them affordable for average consumers.

On Friday, 12th September 2018, SpaceX signed its first passenger for a flight around the moon. This is a huge leap towards commercialisation of space travel.

Asked on a tweet whether he would be the first passenger, Elon Musk replied with a Japanese flag emoji. 42-year old Japanese billionaire fashion entrepreneur Yusaku Maezawa will be the first paying passenger to circle the Moon. This trip will be launched using the Big Falcon Rocket (BFR), a huge launch vehicle which is being designed to carry people to deep space. The company has named the flight “BFR Lunar Mission”.

SpaceX executives tweeted, “Only 24 humans have been to the moon in history. No one has visited since the last Apollo mission in 1972.”

The first men to set foot on the moon were American astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin in 1969, a moment celebrated around the globe. Armstrong had declared it as, “One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”

SpaceX is also an important partner for NASA (NationalAeronautics and Space Administration) as it has a contract of carrying NASA astronauts to the orbiting International Space Station (ISS).

Musk’s SpaceX and Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic LLC are the two companies that are trying to get the common man to access space travel, thus fulfilling many dreams.
