Saina Nehwal gets hitched

India’s badminton stars Saina Nehwal and Parupalli Kashyap tied the knot in a private ceremony in Hyderabad on Friday, 14 th December. The wedding took place at Saina’s residence in Orion villas at Raidurgam in Cyberabad. “It was a small gathering of about 40 guests, including relatives of the Saina and Kashyap’s families. It was a very simple ceremony and December 16th was the reception,” Saina’s father Harvir Singh said.

Saina and Kashyap have been in a relationship for the past decade now but successfully managed to keep it under wraps. Saina and Kashyap, the 2014 CWG gold medallist, first met at the Pullela Gopichand badminton academy where they have been training since 2005.

Saina Nehwal is an Indian professional badminton singles player. A former world no. 1, she has won over 23 international titles, which include ten  Superseries  titles.

Although she reached the world’s 2nd in the 2009, it was only in 2015 that she was able to attain the world no. 1 ranking, thereby becoming the only female player from India and overall the second Indian player – after Prakash Padukone – to achieve this feat. She has represented India three times in the Olympics, winning a bronze medal in her second appearance.

Parupalli Kashyap is a badminton player from India. He trains at Gopichand Badminton Academy and is supported by Olympic Gold Quest, a not-for-profit foundation supporting Indian athletes. He was awarded the Arjuna Award by Government of India in 2012. He created history by reaching the Quarterfinals of men’s singles at 2012 London Olympics, being the only male player from India to do so, at that time.
