Indian hockey beat Germany to win bronze at Tokyo Olympics 2020

Field hockey, a sport which India has such a rich history and tradition of. A sport which has given the country as many as 11 Olympic medals, including 8 golds (1928-1980) has reignited its bond on the Olympic stage with India. The last time India won an Olympic medal was in 1980 with a gold. Now, India ended a 41-year wait to win the bronze medal  in hockey at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

Germany had taken an early lead with Timur Oruz scoring in the second minute of the first quarter. Simranjeet Singh scored in the 17th minute to draw India level at 1-1. Germany, however, came roaring back and scored two more goals in the second quarter to lead 3-1.

Hardik Singh pulled a goal back for India to make 2-3. Rupinder Pal Singh gave India a stunning 4-3 lead with a penalty stroke. After that, Simranjeet Singh scored his second goal of the match to give India a 5-3 lead, making into the final quarter.

Soon, Germany was there with a penalty corner and PR Sreejesh, repelled the ball away from the goal as Indian players were filled with joy to win the bronze at the Olympics 2020.

With this, the Indian contingent have registered their 5th medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 (Mirabai Chanu, Lovlina, PV Sindhu, Ravi Dahiya, Indian men’s hockey team) and overall the 12th Olympic medal win in men’s field hockey by India at the Olympics.
