Thailand gets a new King: Maha Vajiralongkorn has been officially crowned on 4 th May, in a grand ceremony in Bangkok. King Vajiralongkorn aged 66, replaces his late father King Bhumibol, who died in 2016 after 70 years on the throne. At the time of his death, he was the world's longest reigning monarch. Indonesian Elections

Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo has beaten rival Prabowo Subianto to win a second term in office, the country's elections commission has said. The commission was expected to announce the official results on Wednesday, 22 nd May, but in a surprise move, it released the final result early on Tuesday (21 st May). Widodo - widely known as Jokowi - and his vice-presidential running mate, Maruf Amin, won the election by a 55.5 percent to 44.5 percent margin over rival Prabowo. Modi government wins the election with a huge mandate

India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi has won a second term in office. The 2019 Indian general election was held in seven phases from 11 April to 19 May 2019 to constitute the 17th Lok Sabha. The counting of votes took place on 23rd May, and on the same day the results were declared. India is the world’s largest democracy where about 900 million Indian citizens were eligible to vote in one of the seven phases depending on the region. Indian Origin boy in finals of Google Science Fair

An Indian origin boy has been ranked among the top 100 regional finalists for the Google Science Fair global contest for student projects. An 11 th grade student of Indian High school, Shaamil Karim hails from Chennai and lives with his family in Dubai. His entry was selected from thousands of entries for the contest. United Kingdom declares state of climate emergency

Following weeks of protests in cities all around the country, the United Kingdom has become the first country in the world to declare a state of environment and climate emergency. The proposal is symbolic of the country’s willingness to act on climate change, but does not legally oblige the government to take action. The idea was proposed by Jeremy Corbyn, the leader of the UK’s left-wing Labour party, and follows a series of large public protests by environmentalist group Extinction Rebellion (XR), who have been blockading roads to protest against the British government’s inaction on climate change.
